Monsoon 2025: Will It Rain In Mumbai Today? Here’s What IMD Says

The Southwest Monsoon continues to make its presence felt across the subcontinent, with its Northern Limit now extending through key regions, including Mumbai, Pune, Kalaburagi, Mahbubnagar, and Agartala, among others.

Mumbai: Mumbai will continue to experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday, May 28. The weather in the ‘City of Dreams’ has turned pleasant as Mumbai welcomed the first monsoon showers on Monday, May 26. After arriving early in Kerala on May 25, the southwest monsoon advanced towards Karnataka and then Maharashtra. Since then, the state has been receiving heavy showers. Visuals from Khar, Colaba and Marine Drive showed areas drenched in heavy rain. While the rain has turned the weather pleasant, intense downpours have caused waterlogging in various parts of the city, disrupting normal life.

Visuals from Swami Vivekananda Road near National College on Tuesday showed streets partially submerged in rainwater.

Notably, Mumbai is currently receiving rainfall as of 9:47 am, Wednesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rain in city and suburbs on Wednesday. There is possibility of thunder lightning accompanied with gusty winds at isolated places. The sky will remain generally cloudy in Mumbai and suburbs.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 31 degrees Celsius and 24°C respectively.

·  North Maharashtra: Moderate to heavy rain/thundershowers are very likely at most places.

·  Marathwada: Moderate rainfall/thundershowers expected at isolated locations.

·  South Madhya Maharashtra: Moderate to heavy rain likely at a few locations.

Furthermore, the forecast from May 31 to June 1, indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by a rise in the maximum temperature to 33.0°

IMD’s Update On Southwest Monsoon

Meanwhile, the IMD has also updated about the advancement of the Southwest monsoon into further regions.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh & Odisha, most parts of westcentral & some more parts of North Bay of Bengal and remaining parts Northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim during next 2-3 days,” IMD said in its weather bulletin.
