Shortly after, they took to the streets to protest in Kotla under the Tofkhana Police Station limits. They even pelted stones at the Police when asked to stop the demonstrations. In response, Ahilyanagar police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. The situation is under control now.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media, “We will have to see if there is a conspiracy behind this. We also need to see who is trying to spoil the social environment. Is anyone trying to polarise us in the same way that was attempted during the Lok Sabha elections? Everyone has the right to practice their religion, but it is wrong to create tension among people in this way.”
