A tragic incident occurred in Mumbai on Wednesday when a ferry carrying over 80 people sank off the coast of Mumbai today. Several people have been rescued and are currently on board the Indian Coast Guard ship named Subhadra Kumari Chauhan. Unfortunately, Thirteen bodies have also been found.

Maharashtra CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex-Gratia
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the families of the deceased. He mentioned about on his X handle. He wrote that, “The incident of a passenger boat of the Neelkamal Company capsizing in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai city is very unfortunate. In this incident, according to the information received till 7.30 pm, 101 people out of the total passengers in the boat have been rescued safely. According to the information given by Navy Vice Admiral Sanjay Jagjit Singh, the Navy doctors have declared 13 people dead till 7.30 pm. Out of these, 3 are Navy personnel and 10 are civilians. I pay my heartfelt tributes to those who died in this accident. We share the grief of their families. 2 seriously injured have been admitted to the Naval Hospital. I pray to God for their speedy recovery.”

He further mentioned that, “Considering the seriousness of the incident, the Navy, Coast Guard, Mumbai Police immediately took up the rescue operation. 11 Navy craft and 4 helicopters were used in this rescue operation. The search operation is still ongoing. Therefore, detailed information will be available by tomorrow. The heirs of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The incident will be investigated by the Navy and the state government.”
