Mumbai: Brazilian Woman Caught Smuggling Cocaine Worth Rs 9 Crore in Her Body, Arrested At Airport

A Brazilian woman was arrested at Mumbai Airport for swallowing capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine, worth Rs 9.73 crores.

Mumbai: A Brazilian woman was arrested at Mumbai Airport for swallowing capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine, worth Rs 9.73 crores in the illegal market. She had traveled from São Paulo to Mumbai. This was a case of smuggling drugs inside her body from Brazil into India.

ANI quoted the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Mumbai Zonal Unit, which took the passenger into custody while further investigation into the international drug smuggling syndicate is underway to identify the other members.

The DRI in its release stated that, based on specific intelligence, officers of the Mumbai Zonal Unit had stopped the Brazilian national at Mumbai Airport on September 18. During interrogation, the person confessed to swallowing capsules filled with drugs for smuggling purposes. As per a court order, the passenger was taken to Sir JJ Hospital, Mumbai, ANI reported.

Accused Carried 124 Capsules Of Cocaine

The officials of DRI said that the accused had allegedly carried 124 capsules of cocaine weighing 973 grams valued at Rs 9.73 crores. The press release released by DRI mentioned that cocaine capsules, which were established to be true by field tests, were recovered under the NDPS Act, 1985 on September 21, 2024. Other accused persons from the international network have also been proceeded against in this case.

Something Similar Happened At Mumbai Airport In July

The DRI mentioned that this operation further clarifies their stance regarding combating drug smuggling at the Mumbai Airport. In another case in July, the DRI Mumbai Zonal Unit seized 5.34 kg of contraband drugs valued at Rs 5 crores at the Mumbai International Airport and arrested one person.
