Motihari Hooch Tragedy: The death toll in the Motihari hooch tragedy has risen to 29. It has been informed by the Motihari SP office that continuous action is being taken by the police against illegal liquor.

According to the police, on April 14 (Friday), information was received that some persons had died under suspicious circumstances in Harsiddhi, Sugauli, Paharpur, Turkaulia and Raghunathpur police station areas of Motihari district.

The local people had told that the cause of all the deaths was due to consumption of spurious liquor. Police said that a door-to-door survey has been conducted by the district administration in the police station areas with complaints.

According to the information given by Motihari SP, Motihari SP Kantesh Kumar Mishra on Sunday suspended 05 police station head, 02 ALTF in-charge and 09 watchmen on charges of negligence in the matter. Along with this, the District Magistrate has also demanded an explanation from the total 07 officials of the Product Department who were negligent in the matter.

Bihar’s DIG (Prohibition) Manavjit Singh Dhillon and Champaran Range DIG Jayant Kant visited Motihari to review the incident on Monday. After review, necessary instructions were given to the concerned Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Circle Police Inspector in the direction of investigation.

174 arrests in 3 days so far

Continuous raids are being conducted by the Motihari police for recovery of illegal liquor and arrest of liquor smugglers. A total of 174 people have been arrested in the last three. A total of 1729.53 liters of country liquor and 49.855 liters of foreign liquor have been recovered and a total of 2200 liters of semi-manufactured liquor has been destroyed.
