Bengaluru: In a horrific case from Karnataka’s Bengaluru, a man murdered his long-term girlfriend after she refused to marry him due to caste differences. The incident occurred in broad daylight yesterday around 7:30 pm near the Omega Healthcare office in the Murugeshpalya area here.
Leela Pavithra, an Andhra Pradesh native, has been identified as the deceased. In Murugeshpalya, she worked for Omega Healthcare Management Services Private Limited. Meanwhile, the accused Dinakar (28) has been arrested. He also hails from Andhra Pradesh.
DCP told the news agency ANI, “Due to the caste difference, the girl’s family members were not ready for the marriage. So the accused stabbed her several times and the incident took place right in front of the Bengaluru office where the girl was working. The accused has been arrested.”
A police officer said that they had been in love for the last five years. However, when she informed her parents about her intention to marry Dinakar, they declined the proposal due to caste differences. The couple remained together until the victim informed the accused of her parents’ decision.
How the incident took place
Dinakar went to Leela’s office and waited outside, enraged. When she stepped out, she confronted her and an argument ensued between them which later turned ugly. After that, the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman 16 times.
A bystander called the cops, who arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect. They also took the woman to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, the Jeevan Bhima Nagar Police have charged Banala with murder, and further investigations are underway.
