Aizawl: The police on Tuesday arrested a man, 25, over allegedly assaulting his wife in Siaha town of Mizoram. The state women commission had registered an FIR against the man following his arrest.

As per a report of the news agency PTI, Lalramdinsanga, the accused, has been sent to the police custody.

Lalramdinsanga is a resident of Siaha town who were caught on camera while beating his wife. The woman had a child on her back while the accused was constantly beating and kicking her.

The video went viral on social media attracting severe criticism. In the video, the accused had hit the woman as she fell on the ground. Then, he started kicking and dragging her.

The man also used a wooden stick to hit her wife while the child was crying and the whole family was watching the incident.

A police official said the couple was drunk when the incident occurred. He further informed that the accused returned to home and did not find her wife. After which, Lalramdinsanga found his wife in neighbour’s house who sold alcohol illegally.

The accused who was drunk already got furious after knowing that his wife has already consumed alcohol.

Mizoram State Commission for Women

As soon as the video went viral on social media, the Mizoram State Commission for Women took suo-moto cognizance to file a case.

The commission on Tuesday issued a notice in which it said the incident is an act of outraging her modesty.

The women’s panel directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take strict action and providing medical aide to the victim and her child.
