Ongoing efforts in Uttar Pradesh are focused on accelerating development by strengthening connectivity through the construction of extensive expressways. The Yogi Adityanath government is dedicated to expedite the development of expressways throughout the state.
Currently, the longest expressway in UP is the Purvanchal Expressway, but it is about to be overshadowed by the upcoming Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway. This ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 35,000 crores, is set to connect 22 districts and 37 tehsils in the state, offering a six-lane, 700-kilometer route.
The foundation stone for this massive expressway, soon to become the longest in UP, is expected to be laid before the Lok Sabha elections. This greenfield expressway will significantly enhance connectivity in the regions near the India-Nepal border, enabling swift access and facilitating the connection of remote areas to different parts of the state and the country.
One remarkable feature of the Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway is the plan to include an airstrip, allowing jet planes to land in case of emergencies or during wartime. Similar provisions exist on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Purvanchal Expressway. This strategic addition enhances the versatility and utility of the expressway.
The Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway is set to connect Purvanchal and Western UP, benefiting the people of Gorakhpur, Shamli, and the 22 districts along its route. Starting from Gorakhpur, it will traverse through several districts on its way to Lucknow and further extend to Shamli, touching 37 tehsils throughout the journey.
This significant infrastructure development underlines the commitment to boosting connectivity, accessibility, and development in Uttar Pradesh, enhancing not only regional mobility but also national security and resilience. The Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway promises to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s transportation landscape.
