New Delhi: A shocking incident has come forth from Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh where a 7-year-old boy was accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. The incident has caused stir in the area.
The incident was reported from a village near Akbarpur district police station on Sunday night after the girl’s mother accused a boy from their neighborhood of sexually assaulting her daughter.
The mother of the 5-year-old boy said her daughter was outside playing at the time of the incident. After the mother contacted the police, both the children were taken to the district hospital and medical records confirmed the rape.
Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday filed an FIR under section 376 of the IPC and section 5/6 of the POCSO Act on the complaint of the girl’s mother.
Notably, Section 82 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 in Chapter IV states that “a child under 7 years of age shall not commit an offence”.
Therefore, no child under the age of seven can be held criminally responsible. Akbarpur Kotwali police station inspector Satish Singh said the police are handling the case with caution.
