Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: There is a good news for commuters awaiting the inauguration of the Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield Expressway. The latest update on the expressway hints that it will be operational by June 2025. The opening of this expressway will revolutionise travel between two major cities of Uttar Pradesh, which are Kanpur and Lucknow. The expressway will cut down the travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to just 35-45 minutes. This will save one and a half hours of commuters. At present it takes up to three hours to travel between these two cities.
About The Expressway
Once the Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield Expressway is open to public, reaching Lucknow airport from Kanpur will take less time. It is also connected to Lucknow-Agra Expressway, which will reduce the distance to Delhi. 80% of the construction work is complete, stated Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia, as reported by the Jagran.
This new 8-lane expressway will cross Banthra, Bani, Datouli Kantha, Taura, Nyaurana, Amarsas and Rawal Marg. The expressway will begin from Shaheed Path located in Lucknow and will go till Nawabganj located in Kanpur. The route will be connected to the Lucknow Ring road facilitating connection between several regional routes. The reported cost of the project is Rs 4,700 crore.
Earlier in October 2024, a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) official in Lucknow stated that the construction is in progressing at a rapid rate. He added, “Everyday we are accumulating carbon credits by saving fuel with the use of 3D automatic machine guided (AMG) technology being applied on road for the first time in India. We expect the road will be ready for use by May-June 2025.”
Meanwhile, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed that Automated & Intelligent Machines such as GPS aided Motor Grader, Intelligent Compactor and stringless Paver have been used in Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield Expressway Project.
“Envisaged advantages of AIMC are savings in time of construction without compromising quality of construction, increased productivity, real time digital documentation & monitoring and better control on quality parameters such as smooth levelled surface, adequately & uniformly compacted surface, etc,” added the statement from NHAI.
