Kolkata Horror: In a latest move, a special court in Kolkata refused to grant bail to Former Principal of RG Kar Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh on Wednesday and suspended police officer Abhijit Mondal, both accused in the rape and murder of a Kolkata trainee doctor.
The court underscored the seriousness of the charges in the trial, implying they might fall in the ‘Rarest of Rare’ category and lead to ‘Capital Punishment.’ According to reports, it stated in order since the allegations were grave enough and capital punishment might be awarded if proven, the accused should not be granted bail.

The court also observed that bail would run against provisions of equity. Considering the ‘social status’ of one being a doctor and the other a police officer, the court ruled the seriousness of the matter cannot be overlooked.
The Central Bureau of Investigation while producing evidence said that some case records might have been tampered with or falsely created. The CBI asserted that additional proof of evidence was obtained from the CCTV footage available in the police station and that Mondal could be confronted based on them. A special court has remanded them to judicial custody till September 30.
Mondal was arrested on September 14, while Ghosh was booked on September 15. CBI also arrested Sanjay Roy, the main accused, on August 10, following this discovery of the body of the victim in a seminar hall at RG Kar.
