Lucknow: In a major accident, 13 people died and 15 were injured on Saturday afternoon in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh as a tractor-trolley full of devotees went out of control and fell down breaking the railing of the bridge built on the river Ganges.
As per information Women and children are also among the dead. Those who sustained injuries were admitted to the hospital. Relief rescue work is going on at the spot.
The accident happened near Birsinghpur village under the Tilhar police station area. Bhagwat Katha was going on in Sunaura village. Women and girls had arrived in tractor trolleys to collect water from the Garra River. Everyone was coming back after filling the water. He was accompanied by people in two trolleys. On the way, both the trolleys started competing to get ahead. Then a tractor-trolley fell down breaking the railing of the bridge.
After the accident, there was chaos on the spot. The people around got involved in saving the injured. MLA Sarona Kushwaha and former MLA Roshanlal Verma also reached the spot. The police force reached Kotwali.
SP S Anand told that 13 people have died in the accident. Relief teams are engaged.
