Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court issued a notice to the Centre and state governments regarding the alleged detention of few Sri Lankan citizens. The Sri Lankan individuals have been kept in the central prison at Parappana Agrahara here. The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) has filed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on behalf of 25 people, reported the news agency PTI. The division bench by Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe was heard on Monday.

The court ordered issuance of notices to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other concerned departments. The notice will also be given to the Union Home Ministry and Karnataka Home Ministry. The member secretary of the KSLSA visited the Central Prison to find out that as many as 38 Sri Lankan nationals were detained illegally. That also includes the 25 people mentioned in the plea.

  The petitioner pleaded to transfer the Sri Lankan nationals to detention facilities on the grounds that their imprisonment is "illegal" as well as in violation of their human rights. As per media reports, these 25 Sri Lankan citizens were living at the Seaport Guest House without adequate documentation and passports.
