Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday announced to look after education of children who lost their parents and relatives to landslide in Muttalli village in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district.

‘We have given relief amount to the next of kin of four people who were killed in house collapse. The government will take care of the education of the children, be it hostel fees or education fees,’ the news agency PTI quoted the CM.

‘If they don’t have a house, I have told the deputy commissioner to build a house for them,’ added CM Bommai.

The Karnataka CM visited a spot in the village where four people were buried alive underneath heap of rocks. In an incident, a house collapsed during the landslide on Tuesday.

CM Bommai further said the soil has become loose owing to the laterite mining in the area. He added that the geological examination of the area will be done to find out which houses are in danger.

After which, the residents living in danger houses will be shifted to a safer place.

The Karnataka CM said there was a loss of around Rs 38 crore to Rs 40 crore in a single day. He informed about issuing directions to the deputy commissioner to submit a report regarding rain-related damages. The CM assured of giving relief amount to the needy ones.

Adding to this, he informed that nearly 14 districts have been affected due to the rain-related incidents. Under these 14 district, around 600 villages have suffered the loss.
