Karnataka Assembly Elections: The election commission of India (EC) on Wednesday will announce the schedule of Karnataka Assembly Elections at 11:30 am. The meeting will be held in Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. It is to inform that there are 224 assembly seats in Karnataka.

Both the BJP and the Congress parties have started giving final touch to the preparations for the Karnataka assembly elections. The Congress announced the names of 124 candidates on 25 March. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will contest from Varuna and Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar will contest from Kanakapura constituency.

Karnataka Assembly Elections: Results of 2018

The last Karnataka Assembly elections were held on May 12, 2018. Voting was held for only 222 of the 224 seats, in which the ruling Congress, the BJP and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s JDS were in a triangular contest.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 104 seats, but fell short of the majority mark by 9 seats. Congress 80 seats and JDS 37 seats formed the coalition government.

14-month Kumaraswamy government

Kumaraswamy’s government fell after about 14 months following the resignation of several Congress MLAs. Later BJP formed the government under the leadership of BS Yeddyurappa. However, after two years Yeddyurappa resigned as the chief minister and the state was then handed over to Basavaraj Bommai.
