New Delhi: An encounter broke out between joint team of security forces and terrorists. The incident occurred Wanigam Bala area of Baramulla district, in North Kashmir, informed the police officials.
Top police official monitoring the operation said, “Encounter started when a joint team of forces launched an anti-terror operation in the area.”
“Earlier, on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the Wanigam Bala area, a search operation was launched. As the search party cordoned the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists fired upon the joint search party. Security forces retaliated with firing which led to the encounter,” officer said.
Meanwhile, more forces of both army and police has been rushed to the area. Kashmir zone police tweeted, “#Encounter has started at Wanigam Bala area of #Baramulla district. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
It’s pertinent to mention that this is the 75th encounter in Kashmir since January this year. The security forces have managed to kill 125 terrorists, 33 of them being Pakistanis. However, 16 security personals and 19 civilians too have lost their lives during this period.
Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other security forces have also managed to arrest 53 active terrorists mostly hybrid terrorists this year so far. They have also arrested 193 terrorist supporters throughout the Kashmir Valley.
