New Delhi: Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that work is being done to increase the use of compressed biogas (CBG), and by the years 2024–25, the plan is to set up more than 5,000 commercial compressed biogas plants across the country.
Compressed biogas is methane gas like CNG, but compressed biogas is derived from agricultural waste, cow dung, a sugarcane residue, and waste present in sewage treatment plants. Energy requirements will be met by its use. It is used as an automotive fuel. The price of biogas, including GST, is currently around Rs 48 per kg.
It was allowed to be sold in 2015. At present, it is sold in 100 stores across the country. There is a plan to increase its production to 15 million metric tonnes in the future. Dependence on CNG in the country as its production increases will be less The direct expenditure of the general public on fuel for cars will be reduced.
