Illegal consignment of red sanders busted in Andhra Pradesh

Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh): As many as 8 people have been arrested while one has absconded after the Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor Police caught them in possession of red sander logs in huge number.

The accused had 122 red sanders (also called red sandalwood) logs worth around Rs 1.2 crores. The police confiscated the logs along with a truck worth Rs 30 lakhs, two cars and one motorcycle.

The illicit consignment was going to Chennai in Tamil Nadu. As per media reports, the accused confessed that they brought red sandalwoods logs from Tirumala foothills and taking them to Tamil Nadu.

Chittoor Police said they spotted the convoy while they were checking every vehicle at Murakambattu junction. They suspected something wrong when a lorry followed by two cars and a motorbike allowed them to escape with a high speed.

It is worth noting that many of the accused have past criminal records. One who absconded is wanted in 24 cases of smuggling of red sandalwood wood.
