Public Order Alert! Hyderabad Police Impose Ban On Gatherings – Here’s What To Know

The order will remain effective from 6 pm on October 27 till November 28 across the city for a month. As per the order, peaceful protests and dharnas would be allowed only at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. Any demonstrations elsewhere in Hyderabad and Secunderabad are strictly prohibited.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police has issued an order prohibiting public gatherings, protests, and dharnas across the city for a month effective from 6 pm on October 27 till November 28. This measure ensures public order and peace.

The order bans gatherings of five or more individuals as well as rallies, public meetings, processions, and any act that can potentially cause public disturbance. This order has been issued by the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (previously Section 144).

Concerns For Disturbances

The Telangana police department’s notification referred to concerns regarding disruptions in public peace in Hyderabad by different organizations and parties through protests and dharnas. The order cited ‘reliable information’ indicating the disturbances.

Conditions For Protest

The order mentioned that peaceful protests and dharnas would be allowed only at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. Any demonstrations elsewhere in Hyderabad and Secunderabad are prohibited.

The order also warned that violators of these restrictions, particularly near the Secretariat and other sensitive places, shall be prosecuted under appropriate penal provisions.

“Therefore, to maintain public order, peace, and tranquility in Hyderabad City, I, CV Anand, IPS., Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City in the exercise of the powers vested in me U/s 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sarihita 2023 (earlier U/s 144 Cr. PC ) do hereby prohibit every kind of gathering of five or more persons, processions, dharnas, rallies or public meetings and prohibit any individual/groups of Individuals from making any speeches, gestures or displaying pictures, any symbols, placards, flags and any type of messages of electronic form etc. which is likely to cause disturbance to the public peace. and order in the limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad,” the order read.

Officers Exempted From The order

  • 1. Police Officers (including Home Guards and SPOs) on duty.
  • 2. Military personnel on duty.
  • 3. Bonafide funeral processions,
  • 4. Flying Squad Education Department.
  • 5. Persons or groups duly exempted by competent authority.
