Over time, the harassment reportedly worsened. Rohit, his parents – Kishtaiah and Surekha – and his brother Mohit were all said to be involved.

Rajitha is said to have made her first suicide attempt on July 16 by taking sleeping pills, reportedly as a result of the abuse she faced. She was admitted to a hospital and later brought home by her parents.

Her second attempt took place on July 28, when she jumped from the bathroom window of her fourth-floor apartment. She sustained critical head injuries and was later pronounced brain dead at the hospital.

Her father, Sub-Inspector Narsimha Goud, filed a complaint, based on which a case has been registered by the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Police.

“We have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against the husband and his family members based on the complaint from the father,” greaterandhra quoted a Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police officer as saying.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are gathering evidence related to the harassment allegations.”
