Hyderabad: Three youngsters have been arrested in different snatching cases in Hyderabad. Two of them were pursuing engineering and one is a tutor at private college. Police said that the boys despite their good academics were addicted to online gaming, which landed them in jail. To clear the mounting gaming debts, these three resorted to crime.
DCP Maheshwaram, Sunitha Reddy said that all the three accused had borrowed huge amounts from friends and family and they chose crime to clear the debts, reported TOI.
Why Were They Arrested?
In the first case, Bonta Anil, native of Nalgonda who had completed Master’s in Mathematics had become addicted to gaming and felt into debt trap.
His parents cleared some of his debts after they discovered his condition. They moved him to Hyderabad where he started working as a tutor in corporate institution. His parents helped him to buy a bike. He then borrowed some more money to pay for the bike. He resorted to online gaming and betting to earn money. As the financial crisis again hit him, he committed two chain snatching offences at Pahadishareef and Ibrahimpatnam in September and October.
In the second case, S Srikanth, an engineering student had started a small business of delivering poultry. He allegedly attacked an elderly person in the Madgul police station limits and stole his gold chain to pay online gaming debt. According to police, his debts amounted to 20 lakh and he even sold his family’s land.
In the last case, an engineering student, Vutukari Prabhas also committed a snatching offence in Hyderabad Green Pharma City police limits. He became addicted to online gaming while studying and later burdened by a huge debt.
Police have revealed that these men were arrested based on clues from CCTV cameras.
