Hyderabad: 17 Killed After Fire Breaks Out At Building Near Charminar; PM Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Kin Of Deceased

The cause of the fire remains unclear as of now. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire.

Hyderabad: At least 17 people were reportedly killed and several others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a building in Gulzar Houz near Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar on Sunday morning. The Fire tenders immediately rushed to the spot after being alerted through a call around 6.30 am. The cause of the fire, however, remains unclear as of now, and the authorities are currently investigating the incident. Meanwhile, a short circuit is suspected to have ignited the fire.

Telangana CM Orders Urgent Relief

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed shock over the unfortunate tragedy. In a social media post, he stated, “In the old town of Mir Chowk… In a major fire accident… Many people are dying… It caused great shock. Intensify relief efforts. To do, to provide better treatment to the injured… I ordered the officers.”

PMO Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Kin Of Deceased

PMO tweets, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000”

Majority People Inside The Building Died” – Minister

Speaking to ANI on the situation, Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said, “The fire broke out around 6 am, and by 6.16 am, the fire department of the Telangana government was present at the spot. They tried to save everyone. But the fire had spread massively. The majority of the people inside the building have died. The Chief Minister has spoken to the family (who were living in the building that caught fire). The state government will fully support the family. We will conduct a thorough review to ensure fire safety and avoid any such incidents in the future. The public also has to support the fire department in this.”
