Haridwar: A soldier of Jaat regiment in the India Army was thrashed to death in Hardiwar by a group of Kanwars from Haryana. The 25-year-old Jawan was returning from Haridwar after fetching Ganga water on July 26.

Haridwar’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Dehat Pramendra Dobhal informed that the police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against 20 Kanwariyas in this case and have arrested 6 Kanwariyas.

As per media reports, Kartik, the victim, was attacked as he overtook the motorcycle of another group. The two groups were racing with each other.

Another group became angry after seeing Kartik driving past them. After which, the group of Kanwariyas from attacked Kartik leaving him severely injured.

The accused used iron rods and sticks to beat Kartik. The police informed that the victim succumbed to his injuries while being taken to hospital.

Kartik who was a resident of Sisauli village of Muzaffarnagar district, was on leave. He was visiting Haridwar with a group of Kanwars for Kanwar Yatra.
