Gurugram: ADC Hitesh Kumar Meena held a meeting with officials of other departments, including health, education, and police, on Monday. In this meeting, instructions were given to run a special awareness campaign on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31. The ADC said that under the National Tobacco Control Programme, by June 14, people who smoke in public places should be informed about the ill effects of tobacco consumption and motivated to stay away from drugs.
The ADC said that under the Smoking, Cigarettes, and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003, there is a provision for a penalty for those who disobey the rules. Under Section 4 of the COTPA Act, smoking and tobacco consumption at all public and workplaces have been declared punishable offences. The ADC said that increasing drug addiction among underage youth is a matter of concern. Extensive efforts are also being made at the government level to curb the increasing drug addiction, and every possible effort is being made by the health and police departments in the district to make people aware by running a continuous awareness campaign in this direction. He said that the role of the media in this direction is also positive and commendable.
