Uttar Pradesh is going to witness another expressway network soon. The 380 km long expressway linking Ghaziabad to Kanpur is going to reduce the travel hours and ease the connectivity. Once completed the distance between Kanpur and Ghaziabad will cut down to 5 hours from the usual 8 hours. This expressway is being constructed from Ghaziabad to Kanpur and has been named as ‘Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway.’ Nine major districts of Uttar Pradesh, like Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao, and Kanpur will be connected via this expressway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced the commencement of this expressway.
Features Of This Expressway
As per reports, after the completion of this expressway, industrial centers will also be established in these areas.
It is going to shorten distance between Kanpur and Ghaziabad. It will also reduce traffic congestion and facilitate the movement of goods and services.
The greenfield expressway has been initially planned with four lanes and has potential for construction of six lanes. It’s been said that this expressway may connect to Jewar airport in future enhancing the connectivity with Kanpur. The construction has already begun and it is expected to complete by 2026. In addition to this, it will also improve the connectivity from Delhi-NCR to Kanpur.
Several areas have been identified for industries to foster regional development as per this expressway plan. This expressway will link NH-9, Ghaziabad-Hapur Highway in the north to the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway in the south. This also includes a 60 km connector road from Hapur to Meerut Expressway.
In another development, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved the proposal of a cloverleaf interchange that will connect Yamuna Expressway to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE). An interchange near Jaganpur-Afzalpur will be built which will be about 10 km from the zero point of the Yamuna Expressway. This interchange will connect Yamuna Expressway with the EPE which wasn’t connected earlier. As a result of which people traveling to Agra had to cover extra distance of 15 to 20 km.
