Ghaziabad: Uttar Pradesh’s local body election is on May 11. The district has nine local bodies, of which the Ghaziabad district administration has 606 polling centres for the nine local bodies in the district.

Political parties running in the upcoming Ghaziabad local body elections have finalised their candidates’ names, and campaigning has begun in earnest. According to district administration records, 12 candidates are seeking the mayoral post reserved for women, while 667 others are vying for the Ghaziabad municipal corporation’s 100 councillor seats.

According to official records, 1,837 people are running for mayor/chairpersons and councillors/members of the corporation, four Nagar Palika of Loni, Modinagar, Muradnagar, and Khoda, and four nagar panchayats of Patla, Niwari, Faridnagar, and Dasna.

Aside from the corporate seats, 37 candidates are vying for chairman seats in four Nagar Palikas, and 848 are running for member seats in four Nagar Palikas. Similarly, 58 people are seeking chairperson positions, and 215 people are running for member seats in four Nagar panchayats.

District election officials report that 34 separate flying squads and ten static teams are working in two 12-hour shifts to maintain track of election expenditure and voter enticement through the distribution of money or spirits, which may result in a poll code violation.
