Gujarat: Two children were swimming in the Krishna Sagar Lake in the Botad district of Gujarat on Saturday, and to save them from drowning, three more stepped down into the lake, but they also drowned.

Locals informed the police and a rescue mission was launched as soon as the police arrived on the scene, but the children were unable to be saved. The deceased’s identification has yet to be determined. The age of all the deceased is between 16 to 17 years.

Botad SP Kishor Balolia was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “Five children died by drowning in Krishna Sagar Lake outside Botad town. Two children were swimming in the afternoon when they started drowning. Three others present at the spot jumped into the water to save them but they also drowned. The age of all is between 16-17 years. Further investigation is underway.”
