Noida: City swimmers will not have to run to Delhi and nearby cities for training and practice in the coming days. A swimming pool will be built for international competition at Noida’s Sector-21A stadium. It will be constructed on the vacant land behind the golf range in the stadium. A file regarding the construction of the swimming pool will be placed before CEO Ritu Maheshwari at the next board meeting. After getting approval, the process will move forward.
A Noida Authority official told me that soon a consultant company will be selected to construct it. The swimming pool will be constructed on the PPP model and then handed over to the authority after the construction costs are paid. Skilled international coaches will also be kept here. With its formation, more than 500 budding athletes will not have to go to Gurugram and Delhi for practice. Foreign players will be able to come to the stadium and take part in the competition. The all-weather aquatic stadium will be prepared according to other places, including Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai. They will be able to practise here even in the winter.
According to international standards, the length of the swimming pool should be 50 metres and the width should be 25 metres. It should also have the facility for maximum 10-metre diving. Apart from the main swimming pool, a small swimming pool can be constructed for the players to practise in.
