Punjab: Firing took place inside Bathinda Military Station, Punjab, and was reported around 04:35 in the morning. Four people were killed in the incident on Wednesday morning. The area was cordoned off and sealed off, said the South Western Command of the Indian Army.

South Western Command said, “Four casualties were reported in a firing incident in the early hours of the morning around 04:35 hours inside Bathinda Military Station today. The Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated and the area was cordoned off and sealed. Search operation in progress.”
According to ANI Indian Army said, “Four army jawans of an artillery unit succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the firing incident at Bathinda Military Station. No other injuries to personnel or loss/damage to property were reported. The area continues to be sealed off and joint investigations with Punjab Police are being coordinated to establish the facts of the case. All aspects including the possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back are being ascertained.”

Bathinda’s Senior Superintendent of Police, GS Khurana, stated that a police team is waiting outside the military station and that the Army has not yet cleared their access. However, he stated that it did not appear to be a terror attack and that it could be an “internal matter.” It does not appear to be a terrorist attack. It appears to be a case of fratricide.
According to media reports two armed shooters who were on the camp in civilian clothes, refill and one magazine had gone missing from the camp two days ago.
The incident took place in an artillery battalion of the Bathinda Military Station’s officers’ mess. Families also live in the region. The identities of the victims are being determined. Search operations are underway. Additional information is being gathered.
