Noida: After a prolonged period of scorching heat and humidity, the hi-tech city, Noida, underwent a transformative experience with a sudden downpour, turning it into a waterlogged wonderland. The flood-like situation inundated most parts of the city, with water levels rising to knee-high in many areas, causing traffic jams on major roads and making the daily commute a challenging task. Nonetheless, the rain brought a much-needed respite from the oppressive heat that had plagued us for the past ten days.

During this heatwave, the city’s residents endured uncomfortable conditions as fans and coolers failed to provide relief. The relentless eastern winds and intense sunlight made the weather unbearable. Everyone yearned for the rain to offer some solace, and finally, on a Wednesday morning just before dawn, the dark clouds enveloped the sky, and the heavens opened up, showering this urban jungle with much-needed rain.

The rainfall brought a welcome relief from the stifling heat, but it also presented new challenges. Waterlogging occurred in numerous places, leading to standstill traffic on almost all major routes. Underpasses became impassable due to excessive water accumulation. This brought significant difficulties for commuters, who struggled to reach their workplaces amidst the gridlock. While the authorities had advised schools to close after issuing a heavy rain alert, the lack of timely communication caused inconveniences for both school administrations and parents.

Amidst this mix of relief and distress, the rain also brought a touch of delight. The trees and plants rejoiced as they were nourished by the raindrops, and their colours brightened to a lush green. Roadsides, rooftops, and balconies filled with potted plants were all adorned with vibrant greenery as if the entire city had embraced nature’s gift.
