Delhi: Normal life has been affected in Delhi, the capital, as a result of the ongoing outbreak of diseases spread by mosquitoes. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s most recent weekly reports state that dengue has resurfaced in a terrifying form. In Delhi, two people have passed away from dengue.
Dengue: Huge Cases Reported
As of now in 2025, there have been 1136 dengue cases reported in Delhi. With the confirmation of two deaths included, this figure is concerning. These findings imply that there are still favorable conditions for mosquito reproduction and disease transmission, which calls for rapid action.
Causes of the Rise in Dengue Cases
The most recent MCD data, which was released on October 25, shows that 1066 dengue cases have been reported. In other words, the illness has progressed over 1000. September and October, the two post-monsoon months, have witnessed the greatest increase in instances, which is concerning for public health. September saw 208 new dengue cases, while October saw 307 cases (up until October 25). There have been 72 dengue cases reported over the past week. The primary causes of this rise, according to experts, are stagnant water following rainfall, poor sanitation, and an interruption to preventative efforts.
Field Workers on Strike
The field workers involved in preventing diseases spread by mosquitoes have been on strike for a month due to a number of demands. Larval testing, anti-larval spray campaigns, and house-to-house inspections have all been directly impacted by this. October is the most crucial month for dengue control, but because of staff shortages, inspection activity has stopped. When compared to October of previous year, there has been a significant decrease in home inspections, according to health department sources.
Malaria and chikungunya cases have also increased in addition to dengue. There have been 120 instances of chikungunya and 590 cases of malaria this year. October has saw the greatest number of malaria cases reported. There have been 219 cases reported this month. 2.18 lakh of the 3.21 crore homes that have been inspected so far this year were discovered to be mosquito breeding grounds, according to the MCD. It has started 27,959 prosecutions, sent out 1.43 lakh legal notices, and collected fines totaling over Rs 19.6 lakh. However, the campaign’s speed has been impacted by the prevention workers’ strike.
