New Delhi: Still, the water level of the Yamuna remains above the danger mark but decreased to 205.67 metres at 8 a.m. on Tuesday from 206.01 metres around midnight.
The officials said that it expected to drop further on Tuesday and continue monitoring the situation. “Announcements have been made in [flood] affected areas for people to not return to their homes yet because the water level is still above the danger mark [205.33 metres]. The uptick in water level on Monday did not pose any danger to any localities other than those in the floodplains,” said the official.
According to Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Minister of the Flood and Irrigation Department, the fifth malfunctioning gate of the ITO Barrage has been successfully opened with the assistance of the navy, as requested by the Delhi government.
After being waterlogged last week, the vehicular traffic on the main Vikas Marg is now flowing smoothly. Efforts are underway to clear other flooded areas, including the Salimgarh Fort underpass.
Last Thursday, the Yamuna water level reached a record high of 208.66, resulting in the flooding of low-lying regions and the displacement of approximately 20,000 individuals.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Wazirabad water treatment plant, which had been closed due to the floods, is now fully operational.
