New Delhi: The Delhi government has cancelled the registration of about 53.41 lakh vehicles in the capital until March 27. The decision has been taken following last year’s order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court.
About 80,000 government vehicles are also included in the list of vehicles whose registration has been cancelled. In fact, the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court had last year directed the government to deregister 15-year-old gasoline and 10-year-old diesel vehicles.
The Delhi Transport Department launched a drive to deregister expired gasoline and diesel vehicles. After this, the registration of about 53.41 lakh vehicles has been cancelled until March 27. The vehicles that have been de-registered include two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, mini-tempos, and trucks.
