Noida: In a bid to maintain peace and harmony during upcoming festivals and public gatherings, Noida and Greater Noida have enforced Section 144 of the CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code), placing restrictions on unlawful assemblies and public religious activities in these areas. The move comes as authorities prepare for various significant events and competitive exams.
Crackdown on religious activities
Under this directive, religious activities such as puja, namaz, processions, and other religious events are strictly prohibited at public places and on roads. Those wishing to conduct such activities must seek prior permission from the Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police, or Deputy Commissioner of Police of the respective area.
Upcoming festivals and events
This decision has been prompted by the approaching festivals, including Janmashtami on September 6-7, Chehallum on September 7, and the Dronacharya Mela in Greater Noida on September 12. Additionally, the district is bracing for competitive exams and significant farmer meetings scheduled before September 15.
Potential for disruption
Authorities expressed concerns about potential disruptions to peace, citing the possibility of disturbances by anti-social elements, political parties, farmer organizations, and protesters. To safeguard the prevailing peace and harmony, preemptive measures are being taken.
CrPC section 144 details
The prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 restrict unlawful assemblies of five or more individuals, along with unauthorized public events encompassing religious and political processions. No person is allowed to organize processions or form groups of five or more individuals in public places without prior approval. Exceptions may be made for government-sanctioned events as required.
Drone camera restrictions
Drone camera usage within a one-kilometer radius above and around government offices is completely prohibited. For other locations, shooting or photography with drone cameras is subject to permission from the Commissioner of Police and the Additional Commissioner of Police.
Loudspeaker usage guidelines
The use of loudspeakers at religious places, public events, and processions is allowed within sound levels sanctioned by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court. Additionally, permissible hours for loudspeaker usage are from 10 pm to 6 am.
The implementation of CrPC Section 144 underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring peaceful festivities and gatherings. It serves as a preventive measure to deter activities that may disrupt public order and harmony during these important occasions.
