Political analysts believe the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh may have its own choice as the next Delhi Chief Minister so that it could have a strong grip over the national capital.

Delhi is significant for the Hindutva outfit especially because it holds the power centre of the country. If it captures Delhi, the RSS will have complete hold over a bigger part of the Hindi heartland, from Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to Delhi.

Political observers feel, the Hindutva outfit can ask for its pound of flesh and naturally so becasue it has helped the BJP in the elections.

BJP Owes Sucess To RSS

The top echelons of the RSS became active much before the party started preparations for the Delhi Elections. The Hindutva outfit deployed 100 of its “swayamsevak” or volunteers, who spread across the national capital, held meetings with professionals and social media influencers in the next few days.
The role of the RSS can be understood as hundreds of RSS “swayamsevaks” held more than 50,000 drawing-room meetings in the national capital.

In the next phase, the RSS garnered support from its affiliated outfits, like Laghu Udyog Bharati, representing small, micro and medium entrepreneurs.

Its members met traders and small entrepreneurs in the city. Similarly, the women from the Sevika Samiti will meet women voters at their homes and discuss their problems.

RSS-Affiliates Help BJP In Delhi Elections

Analysts believe, the RSS move proved crucial considering the fact that Arvind Kejriwal developed a following among women, who had voted for the Aam Aadmi Party in earlier elections.

Similarly known as the party of the businessmen and the shopkeepers, the BJP countered AAPs’ impact o the trading community.

The volunteers from the Seva Samiti fanned across the slum areas of the jhuggi-jhopdi colonies as the AAP has made deep inroads into these areas and the people vote for the party.

Names Doing Rounds For Delhi CM’s Post

The names doing the rounds for the most coveted post of Delhi politics are- Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ramesh Bidhuri, Vijender Gupta, Manoj Vajpayee, Rekha Sharma and Shikha Roy.

Parvesh Verma: The Jat Leader

Verma, who emerged as a giant killer by defeating former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi is Jat, the community that has voted overwhelmingly in favour of the BJP.
This community is also significant with its presence in the neighbouring state of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The son of former Delhi CM and BJP stalwart Sahib Singh Verma is known for his aggressive Hindutva politics. He is still remembered for what he said during the Shaheen Bag protests.

According to ANI, he said on January 28, 2020, “”Lakhs of people gather there (Shaheen Bagh)… They will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters, kill them. There’s time today, (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji and Amit Shah won’t come to save you tomorrow.”

Kapil Mishra: Brahmin Face

Another pro-Hindutva leader Kapil Mishra is a Brahmin. Once close to Arvind Kejriwal and a former AAP MLA, he is known for what he said before the Delhi riots that ocurred in February 2020.

Protesting against the anti-CAA demonstrations, he issued warning to the Delhi Police and asked them to get it vacated within 48 hours. He told the DIG, “Till US President is in India, we are leaving the area peacefully. After that we won’t listen to you (police) if the roads are not vacated by then.”

A few hours afterward, riots erupted, in which 53 people were killed.

Ramesh Bidhuri: Gurjar MLA

Ramesh Bidhuri, a gurjar leader, was deployed to win over the voters of this community, that consists of about 9% of Delhi electorate. He lost to Delhi CM Atishi.

Ramesh Bidhuri too, is known for his aggressive Hindutva. While pariticipating in a debate in September 2023, Bidhuri used unparliamentary and the most objectionable abuses against then BSP MP Danish Ali.

He not only branded him as a “Pakistani” a “mullah” and a “terrorist”, but said something that can not be written here. He is one of the contenders for the chief minister’s office.

Vijender Gupta: Bania Factor

Satish Upadhyaya, Maninder Singh Sirsa and Vijender Gupta may also be considered for their experience of governance as tey ave served in the municipal corporations.

Will Smriti Irani Be Rehabilitated?

Analysts believe, BJP leaders, particulary PM Modi may also consider Smriti Irani for the top post. The firebrand leader has been in political oblivion since her loss in the Lok Sabha election.

Much before the preparations for Delhi Elections were started, top echelons of the saffron party suggested that the former Amethi MP should be brought forward to lead the poll campaign.

Considering her proximity to PM Modi and her penchant for continuously targeting the Gandhi family, she may be handed over the keys of the national capital.

It is not yet known who will get Delhi’s most coveted post, but a surprise can not be ruled out. The RSS and PM Modi both have the capability of springing a surprise, as they have done on many occasions.
