The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a remarkable comeback in Delhi after 27 years, securing a resounding victory against the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). BJP’s triumph is something AAP is still struggling to come to terms with. Now, all eyes are on the party leadership as speculation grows over the next chief minister of the national capital. Who will take the top post, and when will the new BJP government be sworn in? Here’s a glimpse at the possible dates for BJP’s oath-taking ceremony in Delhi.
According to sources, the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government is expected to take place only after February 15, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a U.S. tour from February 12 to 13. The oath-taking will happen only after his return. Until then, speculation over the next Chief Minister will continue, giving BJP’s top leadership time to finalize their decision.
BJP-Led Delhi Government
The BJP did not announce a Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Instead, as in previous state polls, the party rallied behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its central figure. Now, with a decisive victory secured, speculation is mounting over who will take on the role of Delhi’s next Chief Minister.
Parvesh Verma
Parvesh Verma, who defeated former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in his stronghold, the New Delhi constituency, is considered a frontrunner for the CM post. His recent meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah has further fueled speculation about his potential appointment.
Bansuri Swaraj
Another top contender is Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj and a first-time MP. She holds the prestigious New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, once represented by BJP icons Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani. Additionally, BJP leader Vijender Gupta, who secured a victory from Rohini, is also being considered for the top post.

Smriti Irani
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani’s name has also surfaced in discussions for the CM role. Known for her high-profile victory against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in 2019 (though he reclaimed the seat in 2024), Irani played an active role in the BJP’s Delhi election campaign this time.
Satish Upadhyay
He is regarded as the BJP’s prominent Brahmin face in Delhi. Over the years, he has held key leadership roles, including serving as the BJP state president, leading the Delhi Yuva Morcha, and acting as the vice-chairman of the NDMC. Beyond these positions, he has taken on several organizational responsibilities, played a crucial role as co-in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, and maintains strong ties with the RSS.
Jitendra Mahajan
He is close to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), comes from the Vaishya community. He became an MLA for the third time and defeated Sarita Singh to win Rohtas Nagar seat.
