What Will Be The Fate Of Kejriwal’s Freebies After BJP’s Sweeping Victory In Delhi

Notably, rumours were being spread by AAP that the BJP would end all welfare schemes started by Arvind Kejriwal if it came to power

BJP’s sweeping victory in the national capital has sent shockwaves through even AAP’s strongholds. While most exit polls predicted a BJP majority, AAP’s loss of power has been nothing short of astonishing for both Delhi and the party’s headquarters. With the counting process nearing its final round, the outcome is becoming increasingly clear. Now, Delhiites are left wondering about the fate of the freebies introduced by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

What Will Be The Fate Of Freebies?

If Union Minister J.P. Nadda’s words are to be believed, the freebies will continue under BJP’s rule. During the party’s manifesto launch for the Delhi elections, Nadda assured, “All existing welfare schemes will continue.” He also emphasized that BJP would not only uphold these schemes but also enhance them while eliminating any corruption allegedly committed by AAP.

Notably, rumours were being spread by AAP that the BJP would end all welfare schemes started by Arvind Kejriwal if it came to power. Nadda clarified the matter, stating, “All existing welfare schemes will continue.”

Other BJP Promises

The BJP has pledged to provide a pension of Rs 2,500 for senior citizens aged between 60 and 70, and a higher pension of Rs 3,000 for those who are over 70 years old.

“Back in 2020, we made 500 promises, and we delivered 499—achieving 99.99 per cent completion. In 2019, we pledged 235 promises and fulfilled 225, with the rest in the implementation stage, reaching 95.5 per cent completion,” Nadda said.

As BJP stands on the brink of a historic comeback, all eyes are now on its leadership to announce the party’s choice for Delhi’s next Chief Minister. Early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 43 of Delhi’s 70 assembly seats, putting it in a strong position to secure a majority. This has sparked the big question—who will be Delhi’s next CM?

While speculation is rife, the party has remained tight-lipped about its chief ministerial pick. Meanwhile, Parvesh Verma, who secured a high-profile victory against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah after BJP’s win became evident.

The voting for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats was held on February 5, with the counting of votes taking place today. In the last election in 2020, BJP managed to secure only eight seats, while AAP dominated with 62.
