Senior BJP veteran Vijay Kumar Malhotra passed away on Tuesday morning at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Malhotra, aged 93, was the first president of the BJP's Delhi unit. "Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji, a senior BJP leader aged 93 years, was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi, where he passed away in the morning of 30th September 2025," AIIMS Delhi said in an official release.
The tragic news came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly-built BJP office at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Marg. While expressing condolences on VK Malhotra's demise, the Bharatiya Janata Party said, "The news of the sudden demise of BJP's senior leader, the first president of Delhi BJP, Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji, is extremely heartbreaking. In this hour of grief, the entire BJP family stands with their family members. May God grant the departed soul a place at His divine feet. Om Shanti."

Malhotra, aged 93, was among the BJP and its predecessor Jan Sangh's most prominent faces. The tragic news of his death has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum. In a social media post on Tuesday, PM Modi condoled the veteran BJP leader's demise, stating, "Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played a vital role in strengthening our Party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his Parliamentary interventions. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti," he said.
