The construction of an underpass at Gaur Chowk has begun to ease traffic congestion of Greater Noida West. Greater Noida Authority has given green signal to the construction of a six-lane underpass, which reportedly will be completed in 18 months. Once operational, this underpass will enable drivers coming from Ghaziabad and Greater Noida East to travel without any obstacle. Lakh of commuters passing through the chowk will get relief from this.
Commuters To Face Hassles
While the underpass will certainly benefit commuters, its construction is set to create problems for them. The construction of this project is progressing at a steady pace. At present, digging is going on. There has been no relief in traffic around the Gol Chakkar (roundabout). Gaur Chowk is continuously facing traffic jams. Traffic slows down as it reaches Gaur Chowk from the six-lane Parthala Flyover during the peak hours in morning and evening. All this leads to massive congestion, creating problems for the commuters.

Residents residing in Gaur City said that they face difficulties while commuting for work and other purposes due to the ongoing construction work. They mentioned that it has become difficult to reach Gaur Chowk during peak evening hours. Residents have complained of traffic jams from all sides. They added that people use service lanes to avoid the traffic jam on the main road, which results in congestion on the service lanes as well.

According to reports, the project will cost Rs 82 crore. The total length of the underpass is 720 meters and the width is 30 meters. Along with that, there will be ramps of 250 meters on both sides.
Senior manager at GNIDA, Rajesh Gautam stated that the underpass will be constructed on the road connecting Greater Noida to Gaur City and then Delhi-Meerut Expressway. It will intersect with NMRC’s proposed Greater Noida West metro line. “We expect to complete the work in 18 months,” added Gautam.
