New Delhi: The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) held a pre-bid meeting today and plans to construct an elevated corridor to smooth the traffic around the Paharganj side of New Delhi. Multiple entries will be made through the corridor to the entry station from Basant Lane, Chelmsford Road, and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 4,700 crore.
As part of the New Delhi Railway Station Mega Redevelopment Plan, the exit ramp for the elevated structure will be situated on Asaf Ali Marg and Bhavbhuti Marg. Additionally, the road widening plans will involve Chelmsford Road, Bhavbhuti Marg, Minto Road, Panchkuian Road, and Basant Road around the station. The development aims to create 23 kilometres of elevated roads to ease passenger movement from different parts of the city. Currently, reaching the station during peak hours is time-consuming for commuters.
The new station will cover 1.5 crore sq meters and include two unique domes with four floors of roof plazas, offering an additional space of about 15 acres. The project will be executed on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model, where an EPC company handles the engineering, procurement, and construction components of the plan. The officials anticipate accommodating around 450,000 passengers, as the traffic at NDLS continues to increase day by day.
