Noida: In the latest update, the beautification work of Udyog Marg has failed. The Noida Authority has abandoned its plan to turn it into a model road due to high expenses. Now the authority is currently overseeing the repair work of the road and the footpath. A separate tender is expected to be issued soon, the authority said.
The Udyog Marg which extends from Sector 1 roundabout to Sector 11 Jhundpura village Intersection, sees a massive crowd daily. Common people as well as government officers take this route to go to the Noida Authority’s main office, located in Sector 6. There were plans to turn Udyog Marg into a model road, however, about six years ago the project got stuck. Reports revealed that the tender was issued twice for the same, reports were prepared and even the design was ready. The investment cost was Rs 49 crore and a tender was issued for the third time. This process was reportedly initiated again four months ago, however, it got stuck, reports added.
Work Stopped Due To Lack Of Consensus
There were discussions to reduce the budget to Rs 40 crore from 49 crore but no consensus was reached. Therefore, the Noida Authority decided to cancel the beautification plan of Udyog Marg. According to Noida Authority CEO, Dr. Lokesh M, now only the repair works will be done.
About 15 To 20 lakh Spent On The Project
Reports stated that Rs 15 to 20 lakh have already been spent on the process of preparing the cancelled plan which includes conducting a survey and making designs ready. The people are raising questions such as why the government spent that much money on the plan that was not worth giving a concrete shape.
Noida Authority Seeks CBI Approval
Noida Authority had earlier taken CBI’s approval to make Udyog Marg a model road. CBI permitted them to carry out construction under a few conditions. This permission was sought during the tenure of Yadav Singh, the Engineer-in-Chief of Noida Authority. A scam related to laying cables on Udyog Marg is currently under CBI investigation.
