Three employees of a private firm in Noida have been arrested for allegedly intimidating a 20-year-old female employee after she reported that some coworkers had digitally altered her photos and circulated them with obscene remarks in the office WhatsApp group, according to police on Thursday. Among the three accused, one is the HR and the security in charge.
The woman claimed that after she reported the issue to HR and attempted to involve the police, the company retaliated by conspiring to terminate her employment. According to the police, a fourth suspect is currently on the run.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, Vinod Kumar Mishra, Sector 142 Station House Officer, stated, “Later, when she kept pressing for action, they dismissed her allegations and blocked her from company systems and fire her after misbehaving with her.”
When the victim reached the security in-charge and the HR, she was asked to compromise. The victim registered the complaint on April 29. However, the incident took place on April 11, when the woman found that two of her colleagues had altered her photographs and circulated them on WhatsApp.
She mentioned in her complaint, “They wrote lewd comments about me and circulated them on a WhatsApp group in the office.”
The woman stood firm against intimidation and finally visited Sector 142 police station, where an FIR was registered under both sections 352(2) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and additional sections under the IT Act. The police registered an FIR against the accused for criminal intimidation (352(2)) and intentional insult (352) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant IT Act sections.
