New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old girl died by suicide on Thursday while her family went down to the police station to file a complaint against a man who is being suspected of a friend of the girl in a case related to alleged harassment.

The incident caused stir in the village as a minor hanged herself on a hook in the house. At the time of the incident, the victim’s brother and father were sitting in the police station. The incident took place around 1 pm in a village falling under Jewar police station area.

What Happened?
Police said that in the complaint, the girl’s brother informed that a man aged 19, a resident of the same village, came to their house at about 12:30 p.m., in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday asking for his younger sister’s number. The brother further said the man also molested the minor.
Following the complaint, the police registered an FIR under section 354 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and sections 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Meanwhile in the preliminary investigation, the police found that the girl and the man knew each other already and were in contact. They said further investigation into the matter is underway. The body was sent for the autopsy, while an investigation has been launched, informed an official said.
