Noida: The eagerly awaited Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar has reached a significant milestone with the awarding of its distinctive international three-letter code, 'DXN', by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
A code with global significance
This IATA code serves as an exclusive location identifier for airports and will feature prominently in ticket bookings, boarding passes, and baggage tag designations. It essentially functions like a postcode and adheres to IATA Resolution 763 (location code requirements). This code is poised to facilitate standardized communication among aviation stakeholders, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing errors.
Interpreting the code
NIA CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, elucidated the significance of the code, emphasizing its role in spotlighting Delhi-Noida's global connectivity. "The 'D' in DXN represents Delhi, our national capital, while 'N' signifies Noida, reflecting our presence in the Western UP region. We believe the 'X' symbolizes connectivity within India and across the world," Schnellmann stated.
Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer of NIA, celebrated the achievement as a major milestone, highlighting the enduring nature of the code as an airport's identity. She expressed gratitude for the support received from airlines such as IndiGo and Air India, as well as the Uttar Pradesh government.
NIA: A Game-changing project
Spanning 1,334 hectares, NIA is under development by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. YIAPL is responsible for designing, constructing, and operating the airport for four decades. The Noida International Airport Ltd. (NIAL) is the implementing agency representing the UP government and is jointly owned by the state government, Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
This unique IATA code solidifies NIA's standing as a significant player in the aviation sector, poised to elevate the connectivity and accessibility of the Delhi-Noida region on the global stage.
