Noida Airport Delays Lead To ₹10 Lakh Fine Every Day, Terminal Construction Still Incomplete

Slow progress in the construction of Noida International Airport has been blamed on the responsible agencies.

Tata company has been held responsible for the delay in the construction of Noida International Airport’s terminal building. The executing agency, YAPL, has been asked to explain the delay in the water and sewage treatment plant. All involved parties have been asked to submit a catch-up plan by May 15 to complete the terminal building for domestic flights.

Slow progress in the construction of Noida International Airport has been blamed on the responsible agencies. After a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, another meeting was held on Monday between officials of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) and Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YAPL).

Catch-Up Plan Requested To Complete Terminal Building

Officials have held Tata company responsible for the delay in the construction of the terminal building. YAPL, the executing agency, has been asked to explain the delay in the water and sewage treatment plant. All agencies involved in the airport construction have been asked to submit a catch-up plan by May 15 to complete the terminal building for domestic flights.

Work To Be Completed By April

In a recent meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Lucknow, it was revealed that only 80% of the terminal building work has been completed. Due to issues with steel molding, the work will not be finished until April. The runway work is 90% complete and is expected to be finished by April. The water and sewage treatment plant is 60% complete.

When Can Flight Services Start?

The work on the terminal building for international flights is expected to be completed between June 15 and 25. Flight services from the airport are likely to begin only after May. The DGCA is expected to issue the aerodrome license by the end of May. Without this license, it will not be possible for planes to land or take off from the runway.

Accommodation For CISF Personnel Still Not Ready

There is still no accommodation available for unmarried CISF personnel within the campus. On Monday, a meeting was held under the leadership of NIAL CEO Dr. Arunveer Singh to discuss the catch-up plan. During the meeting, the goal was set to complete the terminal building for domestic flights by May 15.

YAPL Facing Daily Fine Since September

YAPL, the executing agency, has been fined ₹10 lakh per day from the scheduled date of September 29, 2024, until the airport starts operations. If the airport begins operations by May, the company will have to pay a total fine of around ₹24 crore. The first phase of operations was initially set for September 29, 2024, but the airport could not open on time.
