Delhi: A stampede-like situation occurred last night at New Delhi Railway Station, leaving several passengers injured. The incident was reported at around 9:55 PM, following which railway authorities and security personnel rushed to the site. The stampede took place on platforms 14 and 15. Emergency services were immediately alerted, with four fire engines dispatched to the scene.
According to sources, the chaos was triggered by the sudden cancellation of two trains heading to Prayagraj, which led to a massive crowd gathering at the station. The announcement of the cancellations caused panic among the passengers, resulting in a stampede-like situation. Several passengers were reported to have been injured and are currently receiving medical assistance.
When Prayagraj express was standing at platform no. 14, lots of public were present at platform. Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani express were delayed and passenger of these trains were also present at platform no. 12, 13 and 14. As per CMI every hours 1500 general tickets were sold by railways. That’s why the crowd became uncontrollable. To control the situation, additional security forces have been deployed at the station. Railway officials have appealed to passengers to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors.
An investigation has been launched to determine the reasons behind the train cancellations and whether sufficient arrangements had been made to handle the crowd. Special helpline numbers for affected passengers may be announced. There is growing frustration among passengers, and many are questioning the handling of the situation by the railway administration.
However, Delhi Police’s Railway Unit denied that a stampede occurred in this area.
The stampede tragically led to 18 fatalities, including 14 women, 2 men, and 2 children. This incident is deeply unfortunate, and authorities are investigating measures to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.
2-Member High-Level Committee Formed
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at the Railway Board, on Sunday, informed that a two-member high-level committee had been formed to investigate the matter and determine the cause of the stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday, which claimed around 15 lives.

“A two-member high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter,” said Dilip Kumar.
Kumar has assured that the situation is now under control, and passengers have been accommodated on special trains. Normal train movement has also resumed at the station.
“The situation is under control, and the passengers have been sent by special train… Train movement at the railway station is normal now,” he added.
According to Kumar, the station was experiencing an unusually high volume of passengers, prompting the railways to operate four additional special trains to manage the crowd.
