Major Upgrade at New Delhi Railway Station- New Yatri Suvidha Kendra to ease festive rush; Check key features

The Ministry of Railways, in an official release, stated that new Yatri Suvidha Kendra divided into Pre-Ticketing, Ticketing, and Post-Ticketing Zones will reduce congestion and enhance comfort.

In a major boost to passenger convenience ahead of the festive season rush, the new Yatri Suvidha Kendra at one of the country’s busiest terminals has been divided into three zones to ease crowding and improve flow. These include a 2,860 sqm Ticketing Area, a 1,150 sqm Post-Ticketing Area, and a 1,218 sqm Pre-Ticketing Area. This layout is aimed at reducing congestion and making the terminal experience smoother for railway passengers at the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS).

Ashwini Vaishnaw inspects Yatri Suvidha Kendra 

In this regard, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Saturday, inspected the newly constructed Yatri Suvidha Kendra, permanent holding area at NDLS. The center is designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers at any given time, ultimately enhancing pre-boarding comfort and flow.

Noting the benefits of Yatri Suvidha Kendra, Vaishnaw stated, “The newly developed state-of-the-art Yatri Suvidha Kendra will provide comfort to passengers during the festival season, as there is a surge in passenger volume. Yatri Suvidha Kendra, like this, shall be developed at other stations in the country.”

Key features

Notably, the Northern Railway has equipped the centre with modern facilities to enhance passenger convenience and security, including 22 modern ticketing counters and 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). The facility has a seating capacity for 200 passengers and features 18 High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) Fans for efficient cooling. Additionally, it includes a dedicated toilet block spanning 652 sqm, as well as an RO-based drinking water system.

Moreover, for information and safety, a robust passenger announcement system with 24 speakers, three LED electronic train information displays, and 7 units of a modern fire-fighting system will also be available. Enhanced security measures, include 18 CCTV cameras, five luggage scanners, and five Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD).

The Ministry of Railways, in an official release, announced a key infrastructure upgrade with the extension of Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1). This extension allows passengers deboarding at NDLS to exit directly towards the Metro Station, significantly easing platform crowding and improving multimodal connectivity.
