Noida: A five-member committee has been reportedly formed to monitor the lifts and escalators’ maintenance and safety standards and to take swift action on such accidents, among others. The Uttar Pradesh Lift and Escalator Rules 2024 was made effective from September 25, 2024, to ensure the safety, maintenance, and working of lifts and escalators in residential societies, sectors, big malls, and offices in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
According to Jagran reports, the District Magistrate (DM) has received the Government Order for setting up a five-member committee. The members consist of the Vice-President of the concerned Development Authority, the ADM Finance and Revenue, the Municipal Commissioner or Executive Officer, the Executive Engineer from the Public Works Department, and the Assistant Director of Electrical Safety.
Rule nine of GO issued on September 25 this year stipulated that the operator of lifts and escalators shall maintain an accident logbook which he is required to produce before the local Assistant Director of Electrical Safety or other authorized officers on demand.
Key Provisions Of The Lift Act
The Uttar Pradesh Lift and Escalator Rules were enacted originally on February 26, 2024, with a subsequent notification issued on July 18, 2024. According to the regulations, all lift and escalator owners have to get registered within six months from the date of implementation of the Act. In case of any accidents, the DM will ensure a joint investigation by the Electrical Inspector and an Executive Magistrate.
