The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the national capital until 12:30 am today. Meanwhile, the residents complained of delays in reaching their destinations due to water accumulation on main roads, in basement parking lots, and even at society entry gates. Social media users took to X to express their frustration

A heavy spell of rain that started in the early hours of Thursday has caused significant disruptions across the Delhi-NCR region. In light of the situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the national capital until 12:30 am today. The rain led to waterlogging in different areas, causing inconvenience to the commuters during the morning rush hour. Key areas, including Minto Bridge, Moti Bagh flyover, Vijay Chowk, Nizamuddin flyover, and Rafi Marg, experienced torrential showers.

Delhiites Vent Frustration Online

The relentless rain did not spare residential societies and buildings either. Residents complained of delays in reaching their destinations due to water accumulation on main roads, in basement parking lots, and even at society entry gates. Social media users took to X to express their frustration. “We have absolutely flooded the city today. It’ll take me an hour to cover a route that usually takes 10 minutes, because the normal route is flooded with tyre-height water. Please avoid taking your vehicles out today,” a Delhi resident said.

Another user shared waterlogging images from APS Colony and Mahatma Gandhi Road on X with the caption: “Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR since this morning has crippled normal life. Many areas are waterlogged, and the weather department has issued a red alert, warning of more showers.”

A frustrated user stuck in traffic wrote, “Delhi roads right now: stuck in a cab 100m from India Gate. If Indian contractors haven’t been able to fix flooding for 30+ years, shouldn’t we consider international tenders? Just once?

On the Outer Ring Road in the Subroto Park area, the main road has turned into a pool. The monsoon mayhem has also been witnessed on MB Road, Devli Road, BD Marg, and other areas. Among the most striking scenes are the visuals of the Yamuna River at Loha Pul. The river has been flowing below the danger mark this morning.
