JNU Polls 2025-26: It’s war time now! As JNU students roll up their sleeves for the college elections, the Election Committee of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has released the final list of candidates for the much-awaited Students’ Union elections for the academic year 2025–26. How many are in the fray?
JNU Polls: How Many Candidates
JNU Polls 2025-26: A total of 20 candidates, including six women, will contest for four main posts — president, vice-president, general secretary, and joint secretary — in the November 4 elections. Out of these, seven students are contesting for president, three for vice-president, five for general secretary, and five for joint secretary. Apart from this, 111 students have been confirmed as candidates for councill or positions across JNU’s 18 centres. The final list of candidates was released on Wednesday evening after the withdrawal period ended. After that, campaign spaces were allotted on the campus.

This year’s election will see a triangular contest between the Left alliance, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), along with several independent and smaller group contestants.

AISF is taking part in the election on its own, with Gopikrishnan U contesting for the post of general secretary. From the Ambedkarite group BAPSA, Raj Ratan Rajoria is contesting for president and Shuaib Khan for general secretary. DISHA has chosen Shirshava Indu as its candidate for president, while the Progressive Students’ Association has nominated Shinde Vijayalaxmi for the same post.
